La Poesía de la Comida
This project consisted of choosing a country to influence your food choice followed by translation of the recipe each person chose. I chose Costa Rica and decided to make gallo pinto. Once we found a recipe, we translated it into Spanish using the command form. Next, we chose an ingredient to write an ode about, I chose beans. On the day of exhibition, we all made our food and read our odes.
My favorite part of this project was writing the odes because we all obtained a new understanding or appreciation of our ingredient. If I were to do this project again, I would definitely challenge myself with the ode more as well as choosing a more interesting dish to make. This project improved my Spanish speaking skills by making me use the command form and improve my pronunciation.
Ode-
Oda a los frijoles
Satisfying beans, as plentiful as sand.
Flavorful pods of content
Fluent in many different flavors and textures.
The beans sit in the boiling water without complaint.
Offering themselves to hungry mouths.
Tiny soldiers of equality
Battling appetite.
Giving themselves to the people of the fields.
Silently content with their boiling fate.
Arrive from their containers with pride.
Supportive like understanding hands.
As abundant as stars on a cloudless night.
Caring,
Reliable,
Simple.
Beans are wonderfully unfailing and humble.
Providing so much, and asking so little.
Ofreciéndose a bocas hambrientas.
Fiable,
Simple.
Frijoles son constantes y humildes.
Produciendo tanta muy cosecha, y preguntando poco.

Arte y Lengua
Descripción del trabajo- This project involved choosing a Spanish artist to influence an art piece of your own. I chose Pablo Picasso to influence my art because he had many different styles throughout his life.

Reflexion- Through this project I definitely improved my Spanish speaking skills and grammar skills. I was able to practice in a real scenario and speak to real people. I learned that Picasso's styles were very reflective of his mood and surroundings. If I were to do this project again, I would practice describing my art more beforehand. This project challenged me by making me apply all of my Spanish skills to make an essay.
Born NOT in the USA / Nacido NO en los EEUU
This unit consisted of writing a children's story in Spanish using the skills we have learned. My story is about the life of a young girl living in Honduras. At the end of our project, we read our stories to elementary school children. The title of my story is Vivo en Roatan.
Reflection-
I am proud of my children's story. I believe that it looks pleasant and has very few errors. It accurately displays my ability and I worked very hard on it. If I were to do this project again, I would leave more time to put my book together. I did not leave myself much time to construct my book, if I had used my time more efficiently, I would not have been so stressed. For me, the most challenging part of this project was forming my story with very few grammatical errors. However, I tend to make reoccurring a tad more frequently.
The habit of heart and mind that was most important for this project was advocacy. I advocated for myself and got help on writing my story. At the beginning of this project I did not advocate for myself about my confusion and quickly feel behind. As soon as I received both peer and teacher help, my story began to blossom. In the future, I have to advocate for myself before I fall behind.
During the Del Alma exhibition we traveled to Park Elementary School to read our stories to children in Del Alma, a cultural exchange program. I enjoyed this exhibition because we were able to read our children’s stories to children. Exhibiting them to the public wouldn’t have been enjoyable, practical, or relevant. I also believe that many of the kids enjoyed because some students really got into it and read stories in very animated tones that the children found extremely humorous. Overall, I think this was an awesome experience.
