Guía de Supervivencia
Project Reflection:
To the begin this project, we separated into our groups and divided the different parts of the survival guide equally. Next, we chose a country to make our survival guide for. My group chose Costa Rica. Each partner was given different scenarios. I chose to write scenarios about shopping and weather in Costa Rica as well as write the introduction to our survival guide. Next, we completed an extended dialogue to preform as a skit with at least three culturally accurate references. The skit had to be written in Spanish and English and then preformed in Spanish.
From my research, I learned a lot about visiting Costa Rica as a tourist. I learned about common foods, such as Gallo Pinto. I also learned about the wildlife in Costa Rica such as the butterflies and several species of sharks. When talking to an elder or someone you're unfamiliar with, in Costa Rica, "usted" is used in place of "tu".
I enjoyed this project because it involved a lot of both speaking and writing in Spanish. It was good practice to use our Spanish skills to actually produce writing of substance in Spanish. It was also good to understand the customs of a Spanish speaking country and see how much customs can vary from country to country. It was nice to have so much freedom in picking our countries, choosing our scenarios, and creating our skits. We had a lot of freedom in how we preformed our skits so it made it easily to have a good time while improving our speaking skills.
