Brave New World Project
As a class, we read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It is a book about a dystopia where everyone is on drugs and aren't permitted to have their own ideas. The theme I found most compelling in BNW was the fact people don't have families and don't develop relationships. People are created in factories and then raised in groups, with the same exposures and ideas. I struggled with making connections to Brave New World because of how different and suppressed Brave New World is. I overcame this struggle by thinking deeper and looking at the bigger themes of BNW not specific events of characters. I grew through this project by learning and effectively using noun-phrase appositives, verbal phrases and concessives. In my essay I have at least one strong example of each! A concessive compares two things to make your point stronger with a word such as although, or which as. Example-"Although Marisa straightens her hair, everyday it looks extremely smooth and glossy." A verbal phrase begins the sentence with a descriptive verb to create an action. Example- "Furiously searching, Riley digs for gold." A noun-phrase apositive combines two sentence. Example- "Sienna, a 15 year old girl, has a dog named Chip." Click this link to read my essay!
