This morning I came in to start creating my LINK video using Final Cut Pro. I've put in most of the audio, a few transitions, video clips, and many still images. I will continue my project work tomorrow to have it completed by the exhibition on Friday.
I came in for a few hours this morning to organize all of my photos/videos that I plan to use for my LINK project. I also chose the video and audio clips I plan to use in my final project.
This morning we set up all of the video equipment in the lobby to record my LINK video. Yesterday I wrote the script and today I said it all on camera.
LINK Project Outline: Hi! I’m Ivie O’Nan, student at Animas High School. I am participating in the LINK program. LINK stands for “Leading Internship for New Knowledge” and my internship was working in the marketing department at Coldwell Banker Heritage House Realtors, one of the major real estate offices in Durango. (show photos of flyers, digital media screenshots, property photos, mike carney video clip here etc. ) During my internship with the Media Director, I learned about architectural photography, video production, digital editing, social media, advertising and marketing in real estate, and other aspects of business promotions. The purpose of real estate companies and their brokers is to help people buy and sell property and help facilitate the real estate transaction. In Durango, not only do we advertise properties but we also promote the abundance of outdoor lifestyle in our beautiful part of Colorado. (show cool Durango stuff here) Regarding marketing and advertising in a real estate office, a key element of the job is continuously promoting the company, its agents, and the properties they represent. Whether using traditional methods such as newspaper ads, flyers, and brochures or modern digital and electronic advertising vehicles such as websites, email newsletters, and online networking, there are always creative methods to get the company and its agents noticed within the community and on a national level. This internship has been an excellent opportunity for me to learn more about business advertising and communications, and this real-life work experience has provided me with a tremendous amount of knowledge that I’m confident will be useful in my future endeavors. This morning I began creating some standing information sign for the lobby (which is still being remodeled). At 9:30, Libby came in for our on-site meeting. We ventured into the basement where we discussed the major aspects of my internship. After she left, I finished up the signs, printed them, and then took them upstairs in their plastic cases. I'll attach a picture to this post. After lunch, I processed the photos from one of the properties from yesterday and began the script for my LINK video project.
I worked for a few hours this morning independently selecting the best takes from the video shoot on Tuesday and then working on editing some of the interior photos from Wednesday. 30 minutes before it was time for me to leave, my mentor came in and helped me refine the photos further and taught me some new techniques.
Today, we first drove out by Oxford to photograph a house that is going to be put on the market soon. This was the first time the owners of the home were around while we were taking pictures. They were also putting in new windows, so we had to work around that. This was the first time I actually received the opportunity to take a few of the photos. When we returned to the office, we did more work editing photos and I had some to work on editing yesterday's photos.
Today I arrived at Coldwell Banker earlier than usual to attend the broker sales meeting. I learned all about the water rights of properties and even things about the Lake Nighthorse project. Immediately after the meeting, we drove to a new listing to photograph it before the brokers arrived on the tour. I rushed around turning on lights, opening windows, and straightening things to maximize the aesthetics of the home. We then returned to the office and processed an exterior view of the property to meet a deadline. I spent the afternoon processing photos of newly properties. One new tool I learned about was the color balance tool which came in handy when an image was too warm or cold.
First thing this morning, I learned some new techniques for editing photos using Photoshop. Time was spent editing the exterior photos of a house we went to take pictures of yesterday. I learned all about color saturation, levels, and sharpness in photos. I also got to practice using the burn and dodge tools to refine the images. Then we went to shoot a video portrait for a Realtor on-site. I developed a new understanding of lighting and sound for videos and working with the subject. Once we returned to the office, after lunch at Serious Texas, I was given the opportunity to independently edit exterior photographs of the house from yesterday. Tomorrow I will learn about editing interior photos and attend an early sales meeting. I'm excited for the rest of my internship.
Today was the first day of my three-week internship at Coldwell Banker here in Durango. I spent the day learning about marketing and media regarding real estate. I really enjoyed my first day as i spend the day learning about architectural photography, Photoshop, and learning the basics of the office. Today I met a lot of new people who I will be able to seek advice from in the future. I also planned my schedule for the next few weeks to be able to finish my project and meet the weekly time requirements. I learned about some of the things I will work on independently and the things I will focus on learning more about over the course of my internship. Today I learned a lot about how Coldwell Banker Heritage House Realtors functions and the expectations for my internship. I'm exciting to continue learning about videos and photo editing tomorrow.
