Policy Statement-Paragraphs explaining Israel's position on Iranian nuclear weapons.
Policy Statement-
Ivie O’Nan (Israel)
Whereas Iran should be permitted to use nuclear technology, creation of nuclear weapons in Iran would threaten the region. If uranium enriched more than 10% is discovered, Iran will be invaded and it will be extracted.
Paragraph 1:
Israel has been attacked by its enemies in the past, if Iran is granted the right to possess nuclear weapons, and is able to develop them, it will pose a threat to Israel, the region, and the world. If Iran develops nuclear weapons, and uses them violently, it will be extremely difficult to infiltrate and remove the weapons from their research centers. Violent and unnecessary use of weapons includes responding with nuclear weapons to nonviolent conflict and responding nuclearly to threats. Although initiating nuclear war is considered unnecessary, responding to nuclear weapons by means of nuclear missiles is at times essential.
A 2-3% enrichment of uranium is required to create nuclear power. Nuclear weapons require an enrichment percentage of 80%, and 90% for larger bombs(BBC,1). Iran doesn’t recognize Israel’s right to statehood, and we fear if Iran possesses nuclear weapons, it will destroy Israel. One of Iran’s allies is China, whereas Israel is allies with US. Therefore a war between Israel and Iran could lead to war between China and the US; if such a war was to occur, the outcome would be negative. It would crash the world’s economies among other devastating tragedies such as mass deaths and the destruction of resources and religious sanctuaries. We, as the world, need to prevent the production of nuclear weapons in Iran. Iran has the right to nuclear technology for power and research; however we don’t feel that it’s necessary for Iran to possess nuclear weapons. 51% percent of Americans believe that America should remain neutral if Israel attacks Iran (Public,1). If the US chooses to not aid Israel, Israel’s defensing will prove inferior to the Iranians. Creating the possibility that a nuclear Iran would prove devastating to Israel, and its founding Jewish principles. The current Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu stated that-"Iran is undermining the world's stability and harms innocent diplomats. World countries must condemn Iran's terror acts and draw a red line." (Claims, 5)
Paragraph 2:
If Iran’s nuclear aptitude is limited to nuclear technology, and it is closely monitored by IAEA, then Iran should be permitted to create nuclear energy and to conduct medical research. However if Uranium if found enrichment percentage of more than 10%, than Iran will be infiltrated and its nuclear research centers will be destroyed. Iran has insisted that it is in no way planning to use nor create nuclear weapons (Amaryeh,1), if they are diligent with enrichment percentages and are straightforward, they will not be invaded, and we shall not encounter problems with IAEA, Israel, nor its allies. If at any time Iran refuses an inspection, they will be invaded and centers will be destroyed at any costs. Inspections will take place once a month, and will occur in every research lab throughout Iran. This is in fear of Israel and its surrounding region, becoming invaded, attacked and destroyed. If Iran’s intentions are peaceful and they do not pursue nuclear weapons inspections will become less frequent and more respectful, consequently if Iran has respectable objectives there will be no need for an invasion. A sanction will be created stating if Iranians fail to comply with regular inspections, they will be invaded, if they comply with the regulations they will be able to participate in less regular examinations. We believe that Iran should be permitted to use nuclear technology.
Iran has made multiple statements clarifying its intentions for nuclear technology. (Amaryeh, 1) Representatives and leaders of Iran have made their intentions on using Nuclear technology for research and power very clear, thus if they stay true to their word there should be no reason for reprimanding.
