My speech from the second conference.
ISRAEL IN SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION 1D
Iranians chant phrases such as “Death to Israel”, the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has made statements suggesting Israel should be “wiped off the map” (1),
How could we allow people with such violent tendencies with denial of Holocaust obtain nuclear weapons?
What grounds do Israelis have to stand on that suggest Israel SHOULDN’T be fearful of the potential actions of Iran. Are Israelis supposed to stand by and wait for the people who wish to wipe them off the map to develop the technology they need to do so? Resolution 1D proposed by France is the best way to secure the assets of the Middle East without depriving Iran of nuclear energy. Israel does not wish for war to occur between Iran and requests that precautionary measures are taken to decrease and possibly remove the threat of a nuclear Iran. It is to Israel’s understanding that Iran has stated that its intentions are not to create nuclear weapons but instead create nuclear energy and explore nuclear medical research. Therefore if it is not it Iran’s interest to create nuclear weapons, then why would they resist peaceful regular inspections done by the IAEA? Israel feels that if Iran has nothing to hide, such as enriched uranium, they would have no reason to resist these inspections. It would give Israel, the region and the world peace of mind. Israel feels that an enrichment maximum of 10% should be an adequate percentage due to the fact it only takes 2-3% to create nuclear energy, and 18-20 % is supposedly needed to conduct medical research.
If Iranians are permitted to freely generate nuclear weapons it will be considerably challenging to infiltrate Iran’s nuclear facilities due to the security and the weaponry they will have then obtained. It is in the world’s best interest that Iran does not own nuclear weapons. Although my ally the United States has armed Iran in the past, it was a mistake- everyone makes them. Let’s not make one by authorizing a nuclear Iran. Israel and the US are not being hypocritical by trying to deny nuclear weapons to Iran. We are trying to guarantee the safety of the world. Iranians deny the fact the holocaust happened in Europe and feel they don’t have the right to exist in the Middle East. The US does have nuclear weapons, which have only been used once, to end a war, not to start one, or to destroy a country. It is in fear of Israel being attacked with nuclear weapons, or a war breaking out, that Israel is rejecting Iran’s right to nuclear weapons
China has stated the hypocritical techniques of Israel, the US, France, England, Germany and more. However we are compromising by permitting nuclear energy and enrichment percentages of up to 10%. Delegates, Israel is barely comfortable consenting the enrichment of any uranium. However, we are here today to help create a solution to the issue, not talk about the problem and ridicule each other. It will not be easy for our solution and the resolution past here today, to completely satisfy every country’s needs, and desires, but it is up to us, to find a way to become united, negotiate and compromise in order to find a positive solution to Iran nuclear technologies and abilities. We feel meeting halfway by allowing a 10% uranium enrichment level is an adequate and acceptable request that will prevent nuclear fallouts, while granting Iran the nuclear energy they deserve.
